Solid Lines Productions is thrilled to announce our 2017-2018 season! We look forward to producing more quality theatre that fosters community dialogue about so many different socially-relevant issues.
October, 2017: Guest director Susan Kopp will direct a staged reading of Jane Martin’s KEELY AND DU as Solid Lines Productions continues to foster dialogue regarding violence against women. This play reminds us that women are frequently violated not just by violence, but through deprivation of choices.
November, 2017: Guest director Shualee Cook will direct a staged reading of Lynn Nottage’s BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK, “a funny and irreverent look at racial stereotypes in Hollywood.” Though this comedy begins its journey in the 1930’s, we find that the dialogue it generates is still painfully relevant today.
February, 2018: Guest director Jackie Chambers will direct a staged reading of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s MARCUS; OR THE SECRET OF SWEET, featuring a young black man who “…discovers his sexuality and true self, against the backdrop of an impending storm.”
March, 2018: Executive director Christopher LaBancawill direct a staged reading of Sarah Kane’s 4.48 PSYCHOSIS, a stunning play that seems to surge forward painfully and relentlessly as it intimately follows the twists and turns of someone struggling with severe mental illness.
May, 2018: Executive director Christopher LaBanca will direct a staged reading of Genny Lim’s PAPER ANGELS, a play that “…explores a world peopled by those courageous individuals who in defiance of discriminatory immigration laws came to America in search of a better life.” This play offers insight into the dreadful purgatory of those targeted by the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act.
June, 2018: Guest director David Wassilak will direct a staged reading of Audrey Cefaly’s FIN & EUBA, a play that sees Fin & Euba “…inhabit a suffocating world. Big dreams, small town prospects. As is their ritual, they sit out on the porch this late autumn night, watching the cars go by… drinking, bitching, and planning their escape.”
