Solid Lines Productions is thrilled to announce that we will be in a residency at the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville! After much dialogue after our October production of EXTREMITIES, it was decided that this was a way to continue the dialogue that we started this past fall.
Artists from Solid Lines Productions will visit the SIUE campus this spring semester and work with students there to write about experiences regarding sexual assault and rape culture. Our artists will then collaborate with students, endeavoring to develop their writing into performance pieces such as poetry and monologues. These performance pieces will be presented and performed by students there in an evening for rape awareness on the SIUE campus sometime this spring.
We are so excited and grateful that SIUE is so invested in raising awareness of these issues and doing so much to help others #jointheconversation. Oftentimes, there are so many things that are left unsaid when someone is a survivor or secondary survivor of rape: people fear “saying the wrong thing” or being ostracized or any other number of reasons. And those fears are justified nearly every day by people everywhere. Thanks to SIUE, we are working toward building a community in which that fear no longer silences voices that must be heard.
Stay tuned for more details as we announce which artists will be collaborating with us and SIUE during the course of this residency!
